HDD market downturn: global sales decline, but enterprise drives hold their ground

According to the latest Trendfocus research, global hard disk drive (HDD) sales declined both quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year in Q4 2023. Between 27.6 and 29.7 million units of all types were shipped, down 3.6 to 3.7 percent from the previous quarter and 18.1 to 23.9 percent from the last quarter of 2022.

However, enterprise HDD shipments grew slightly, confirming continued demand for these devices in the business segment.Total sales were approximately 212 exabytes. Seagate remains the market leader, although its sales are also declining. Western Digital and Toshiba are also showing a downward trend, losing market share.
