Apple has overtaken Samsung to lead the global smartphone market in 2023, according to research from IDC. Despite an overall 3.2% decline in global smartphone shipments, the latest quarter saw an 8.5% increase. Analysts note that while a number of Android-based brands showed significant growth in emerging markets, the winner was Apple, which showed growth and took the top spot. 

The company has shown resilience and success, including by increasing the popularity of premium devices. IDC also notes Huawei's return to the market in China, as well as growing interest in foldable devices and artificial intelligence capabilities on smartphones.
